comment: Bono performs an early version of The First Time during an interview with Spanish radio host Julian Ruiz prior to the concert that night. It is broadcast at a later date. The song features many different lyrics and is sung falsetto. Bono makes comments about parts of the song throughout the performance. It is possible that this performance took place the following day, but we believe the 30 October date to be accurate.

comment: In U2 By U2, Edge describes the band's drinking exploits with Oasis, who supported U2 at their two Oakland shows. Edge does not make it clear after which show the events occurred, but we believe them to be after the second show. The two bands went out drinking into the small hours of the morning (i.e. early on 20 July 1997). Noel Gallagher proclaimed his love for One just before it came on the radio, and he, his brother Liam, Bono, and Edge all got up and sang along. Bono then ended up singing operatic arias while standing on the bar - the specific arias are unknown.

Mother Of God, Mothers Of The Disappeared
comment: After U2's first concert at River Plate Stadium, Bono returns to the band's hotel. There, he recites a W. B. Yeats poem and sings Mothers Of The Disappeared a capella for inclusion on the album Ni Un Paso Atras and the video 20 Años, 20 Poemas, 20 Artistas. He performs in front of a small audience including three of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo, of whom one is the organisation's president, Hebe de Bonafini. It is possible that this performance took place after midnight and was in fact on the 6th of February rather than the 5th.
03/15/1998 Unknown - Cape Town, South Africa
Amazing Grace
comment: Date is approximate - this performance took place sometime close to U2's concert in Cape Town on 16 March 1998. U2 met Archbishop Desmond Tutu on their first trip to South Africa, and he took the band into a room to meet an audience of 600 volunteers that worked with him. Tutu announced that U2 would perform for them - even though they had no instruments. Hence the band sung one song a cappella.

New Day, Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)
comment: Bono appears with Wyclef Jean and they play New Day at the Wyclef Jean Foundation's Caribbean Soiree benefit concert; both performers perform the song not on stage, but atop tables in the club. Afterwards, George Clinton and Joan Osborne joined the two to cover a song by Clinton's group Parliament.

New Day, One / Hear Us Coming (snippet) / All You Need Is Love (snippet), New Day
comment: Bono performs at the New York NetAid concert, one of three charity concerts (the other two in London and Geneva), which are broadcast worldwide and online. He first appeared with Wyclef Jean and an array of other performers, including Michael Stipe and Jewel, to open the concert with a performance of the song he wrote with Jean for the event, New Day. Immediately afterwards, Zucchero and the Julliard Orchestra conducted by Quincy Jones joined Bono for U2's One. Late in the concert, during Wyclef Jean's set, Bono again took the stage and they performed New Day a second time.
